I've noticed a lot of red popping up at Anthropologie and other websites lately. Personally, red is not my favorite color. I tend to gravitate towards aquas and mints. However, there are times when I find myself strangely attracted to things I don't normally like. It's like rebelling against yourself. Does this ever happen to you?

Considering how much clothes us ladies tend to buy, I don't think anyone will object to saving a few bucks on a reasonably stylish Spring wardrobe. Since lately the quality of everyday Anthropologie style has really gone down, while the prices remain the same, I can't even use the excuse "but I'm getting something of high quality that will last me for a long time."
The options that I'm left with are:
1. Boden - beautiful useful styles, high quality, equally high prices. (current coupon for 20% off - WA80)
2. J.Crew - some nice styles, quality varies, overpriced unless on sale.
3. Talbots - mostly for pencil skirts. Otherwise, good for conservative work clothes which I don't have a need for. (Use coupon JANUARY for 25% off full price items and extra 50% off sale).
4. Ann Taylor and LOFT - Not my favorite, but occasionally I do find something I like there.
5. Sundance - some great styles which I can't afford unless there's a sale.
6. ModCloth - great styles but inconsistent quality and not cheap either.
7. Urban Outfitters - some good styles but again, inconsistent quality and not cheap.
8. Old Navy, Gap - More affordable (current coupon for 30% off - NEWYOU).

So lately I've taken to perusing some cheaper websites, namely Forever21 and Old Navy and while the clothes are not exactly "Be still my heart", I was pleasantly surprised to find a whole lot of nice, useful wardrobe pieces. While the quality may be somewhat inconsistent, at least you don't feel like a moron for paying an arm and a leg for it. At an average of $20 per top, you can't go too wrong.

This cardigan is 95% cotton and comes in 8 colors. Seems to me that you can't go wrong with it for the price. I was considering sewing on an applique to a simple cardigan, but didn't want to do it to anything

The romantic theme and exquisite photography are the two merits of the January catalog. As for the clothes, I've said this before and I'm saying it again: they're looking more and more like Urban Outfitters. Unfortunately, I no longer belong to the age group that can get excited over open-back sweaters and strapless dresses worn without a bra. I want sophisticated, well tailored clothes with a vintage flair! Is that too much to ask for? Huh, Anthropologie?

The December catalog has a few promising pieces, but overall, I can't say that I'm too impressed. Some of it is just plain weird. Anthropologie really needs to work on a clear distinction between itself and Urban Outfitters.

I wish they would stop diluting the good stuff with hideous, shapeless, see-through, nylon rags. One day it will happen. I'm a believer!

Anthropologie kids styles are always so unique and whimsical. It's too bad the prices are totally intimidating for an average middle class customer. Then again, Anthropolgie was never meant to be a middle class store. I also noticed that aside from a trapper hat, there aren't any boy's styles. Is it because women tend to spend more on their daughters' clothes? I know I do.

Also, You know what I decided Anthropologie is missing? A Maternity section. They already incorporated Bridal Wear and some kids styles into their repertoire, wouldn't the natural next step be maternity wear?

I know it's hard to believe that women in their thirties and forties with jobs that can afford them Anthropologie clothes might want to reproduce and still look hip, but lets stretch our imagination just a little bit. I would love to see some LiaMolly type sweaters in Anthropologie maternity section, some feminine embroidered tops like Floreat and Odille used to make (whatever happened to those?) and of course plenty of textures. None of that modal droopy stuff that can be purchase at Old Navy for $15. Yes, I know, a lot of Anthropologie tops already look like maternity styles, but it's really not the same thing.

So Anthropologie, are you up to the challenge?

Anthropologie has redesigned their site yet again. Personally, I'm not too fond of the new design. They completely walked away from any retro feel and went for a much more modern look. I also find the origami distracting in the background. Oh well. That's my two cents.

On a more optimistic note, Anthro is offering 25 % OFF Bedding through October 30th.

Plus some clothes were discounted as of today. Nothing that really tempts me, but you may find a few decent pieces, such as the Kimmel Cardi, the Flori Dress.

October is looking quite promising. Though the thought of colder weather makes me want to pick up and move to the nearest Caribbean island, I do love textured, fuzzy sweaters and wool skirts.

Our October heroins are roughing it in the great out doors, and lounging in a lakefront cabin. I can picture there being an annoyed man somewhere in this scenario, saying "Damn woman, you will sprain your ankle, climbing rocks in those shoes and then I'll have to carry your fat a**". Men just don't get it.

I don't know how it happened, but Fall just crept up on us. Chill is in the air and you know what that means. Trench Coat season! I have an obsession with trench coats. I think I have Audrey Hepburn to blame for this. At this point I own three trench coats, a full length wheat color one, and two short ones in black and white. Despite the three I already have, I can't say with full certainty that if another perfectly lovely one came across my vision, I'd be able to resist it. Damn Audrey.

Recipe of a perfect trench: It must have a timeless cut with a bit of an original twist to it. It must be figure flattering and made of nice quality fabric.

It seems that everything that can possibly be said in regards to the whole Anthroholic situation has already been said by other bloggers. There's not much that I can add here. In case you've had your head stock in the sand for the past couple of days, here's a breakdown from bloggers who elaborated on the issue.

Breaking The Silence

My only two cents that I can throw in are, (and I don't mean to sound insensitive to those who lost money and encountered a lot of frustration in dealing with Kim's personal shopping services,) why has the pursuit of desired Anthropologie items has taken so many to giving money to a complete stranger, even if she had a blog? Did her personal shopping services come with any reviews? Did she run a registered business? I understand that the heart wants what it wants, but at which point do we say "it's just clothes"? If we don't buy this today, we'll buy something else tomorrow. Yes, it's pretty, but it's not a one-of-a-kind work of art that needs to be pursued at all cost. It will enhance your life for a little while until Anthropologie or some other brand will come out with the next coveted item and then the whole scenario starts all over again.

I know first hand what it means to be scammed, since it happened to me with an e-Bay seller many years ago when purchasing some photography equipment. I was young and naive. He did have 100% positive rating. The reason I'm telling you this is because I want you to know that I know what it means to be a victim of a scam and I'm extremely sympathetic. However, I'm still under the impression that with Kim (and I don't know anything about her, this is just a hunch), it's simply a case of lack of responsibility and not actual fraud. Of course this doesn't make anyone who lost money feel any better.

Maybe the lesson with which we should come out of this situation, is to take clothes a little less seriously. We should enjoy what is accessible to us through normal means and efforts and not chase after what is not easily accessible. Life it too short to spend it hunting for that one unattainable item. I bet what an average Anthropologie customer spends on clothes per month can feed a village in Somalia for a year. Think about that.

I purchased this one at the last sale

and I wear it to death. It's made out of the lightest, airiest

pointelle cotton knit which makes it very comfortable in warmer weather.

I did remove the bows from mine, but that was a personal choice. The bows

definitely dress up the cardigan, but I wanted a simpler look.
