Anthropologie January 2012 Catalog

The romantic theme and exquisite photography are the two merits of the January catalog. As for the clothes, I've said this before and I'm saying it again: they're looking more and more like Urban Outfitters. Unfortunately, I no longer belong to the age group that can get excited over open-back sweaters and strapless dresses worn without a bra. I want sophisticated, well tailored clothes with a vintage flair! Is that too much to ask for? Huh, Anthropologie?

Cropped Cable Pullover
Dappled Sea Blouse
Did I mention I love the photography in this catalog?
It looks like the photos were shot with film which is making a
big comeback after years of digital mania. Though I myself am a digital addict, I love the classic grainy, warm look of film. Maybe it's time I pull out the film rolls I've had sitting in my freezer for 8 years.
Wonder if  it's still usable. Not only is it film, it's vintage film by now!

Tied-Shoulder Tank

 Blue Rainier Set

 Dahlia Lace Cropped Kimono

 Cropped Keyhole Cardigan

Beaded Violet V-Back

I like the last year's version of the bike dress better.

Rearward Cardigan
In case you needed a draft on your back.

Did any other 40-something like me think that the new catalog was a throwback to the esprit catalogs of the '80s? Remember those? The oversized, folded catalogs filled with great photos and so many possibilities. The backless sweater may not be playing to my demographic, but the esprit homage and the Fleetwood Mac album cover sure touched this 40-something's buttons. Well done catalog designers. You've done your research.
