In my attempt to unveil the identity of the mysterious sweater I found at Anthropologie ( on sale!), I Googled in the name on the tag, Leifsdottir. Anthropologie came up first in the results, followed by Bloomingdales and Nordstrom . I clicked on Bloomingdales and surprise, surprise! I see some familiar styles.
What do we learn from this? That not all Anthropologie styles are made exclusively for Anthropologie. I knew this to be true for shoes and some accessories, but not the clothes.
Recognize these?
Bloomingdales calls it "Octopus Flower Dress"
Center of the Sun Cardigan (image from Bloomingdales)
Fairy Cake Jacket (Bloomingdales calls it Patissarie Jacket)
Now a question begs to be asked. If I wanted to buy any of the Leifsdottir designs, would I buy them from Anthropologie or elsewhere?Fairy Cake Jacket (Bloomingdales calls it Patissarie Jacket)
I do get immense satisfaction of making purchases at Anthropologie, maybe it's those little muslin pouches they put my receipts in, I don't know. I would probably take a peek at other websites to compare prices, though. There is no commandment that says "To Anthropologie, thall shall be true". If the price was the same, well, then the shipping charge would be the deciding factor :-). Think about this long and hard, Anthropologie.

ooh, i was just watching grey's anatomy, and one of the guest characters was totally wearing that last sweater! it is super cute.
i would buy from wherever the best deals were to be had! even with the cute li'l muslin pouches . . .
I've bought most of my Leifsdottir pieces from Bloomies and Nordstroms -- their pieces go on sale faster (though if you wait long enough I think Anthro has better markdowns in the end) and they have free shipping. Sigh. Free shipping totally trumps cute muslin pouches for me :)
Also, I think this season, Anthro hasn't stocked most of Leifsdottir's spring offerings yet (and I wonder if they ever will at this point)...I wonder why?
To date, i.e. in January, I've gotten the best sale deals for Leifsdottir at Anthropologie. I got few fabulous pieces there. However, this February, Leifsdottir sale prices were higher for similar pieces. The Bloomingdales @ 59th St. have a larger collection in a Leifsdottir section/boutique on same level with DVF and Nanette Lepore. Leifsdottir launched by Anthropologies is headed by Executive Design Director Johanna Uurasjarvi (from Finland).http://fashion.elle.com/blog/2008/02/february-8-20-1.html
Although I already knew that clothings from Anthropologie could be had elsewhere, I had NO IDEA that gorgeous "Melange" sweater came in blue! While I desperately wanted the cardi from Anthro (though that mustard-gold color would not suit me in the least), I now have a mission to find it in a color that is more me. :D
I swear, I am so biased though. Is it just me or do you get a "rush" buying solely from Anthropologie? Those packages cannot get here fast enough.

oh i just adore that yellow cardigan!
That first dress is my favorite. Well, I too just got a beautiful skirt from Nordstrom
You can also find their shoes cheaper elsewhere online. Usually you can find discount coupons if you google the other site's name--like shoes.com or shoemall.com.
Yes, I too noticed the "Anthropologie" clothes at Nordstrom & Bloomingdales. I bought a Language top from Anthro last year just to discover 1 month later Nordstom had it in a better color combo. I have been wanting a pair of boots from the Anthropologie website, waiting 4 months for them to get marked down (still full price), did a search on Endless.com & found them for half off + free overnight shipping (YAY!!). Also, I have recently "figured out" if there is something I want to purchase on the website that is not available at my local Anthro, I call the 800# & give them the sku to do a nationwide search. I call the store & they ship it to me for free (and if it's not in my state I don't get charged tax either) thus avoiding the overpriced shipping charges! :)
Leifsdottir is Anthropologie's wholesale brand.
What does that mean? Wholesale brand?
I think it means that they sell clothing in bulk each season to larger vendors like bloomingdales, nordstrom, etc... They buy them at wholesale prices (cheaper price per item if bought in bulk) then mark them up to make a profit. I could be wrong.
I've been seeing a lot of tv actresses wearing clothing from anthropologie, esp Leifsdottir. I hope they launch their web site soon. Aside form Floreat, Leifsdottir is my other fave brand at Anthro.
forgot to add this but I'm selling some items from Anthro on ebay...I have some tops, a jacket, silver earrings, etc...all brand new, never worn! They sat in my closet so I need to get rid of them.

Leifsdottir is an Anthropologie-produced brand being sold wholesale to other vendors. Does that make sense? I've noticed (in my mall, anyway) that Leifsdottir sells out faster at Nordstrom and Bloomie's than at my store. I think Anthro has better markdowns in the end (first markdown is usually 50%!), but the dept stores get different stock sometimes. If you Google there are a few articles from when the brand launched last fall.
oooo, I cheated on Anthropologie yesterday! but those dresses are adorable.
I have several Leifsdottir pieces. I really like the brand. Two sweaters are from Anthro- I have the yellow melange one that was on Grey's. I haven't worn it yet...I bought 3 items from Bloomingdales during one of their super sales. I bought the jean skirt with the ruffle, a pair of denim trousers and black lined trousers. I paid under 200 for all three! Love them.
Does anyone think that brand starts way too high in price? I think it is purposely set that high- my guess is even at 50% off they are still making a mint.

some cute stuff in the march catalog
Leifsdottir is Anthro's wholesale brand - it was created by the design director to use as a label that is placed in department stores - Anthropologie carries the label too, that's why you can find it in multiple places.
In fact, not all of our labels are exclusive to Anthro (i.e. Joe's Jeans)
Oh, I really like the cardigans and jacket! So cute!
God Bless You and Yours!!!
But, Anthropologie has the VERY best return policy.
