Anthropologie-Like Styles at Old Navy Prices

On my recent visit to Old Navy, I've discovered their new embroidered collection for Women and girls and I'm totally smitten. The colors are so dreamy and the embroidery is just beautiful. The quality is surprisingly good for Old Navy prices. I think the idea of coordinating outfits for Mother and daughter is kind of cute, especially for a Summer family portrait on the beach (I'm a photographer so portraits are always on my mind). Most of these styles are available in other colors, but I put in the colors that appeal to me most.

Bed on wheels?

I love the whole "Dressed up statues" look. Very creative and humorous. These statues are always way too dignified looking, it's about time someone gave them a little color. One does wonder though whether the color will attract more birds. We all know how much birds love statues and what they do to them.

New Sweaters I Adore

New additions to my Anthropologie wish list, absolutely lovely new sweaters.

Albizia Cardigan - $118

Briny Deep Cardigan - $98

I love the sky color and the lace appliqué. I should mention though, that the item description on Anthropologie.com states that the sleeves are 3/4. That's a mistake. I tried this sweater on in a store and the sleeves barely reach my elbows (And I'm 5"3). Doesn't make much of a difference, the sweater is stunning, just mentioning the sleeves for accuracy's sake.

My newest purchase, Pointelle Cardigan - $68
It's light as a feather and has pretty dried-flower buttons. My husband said it looks "Folky", which is ok with me. I liked it in the black also but ended up buying the blue for variety's sake.

I should mention that this cardigan is very short. It just reaches to my waist which is perfect for me. However if you're taller than 5"4 it might look a little too cropped. It might be the look you're going for but then again it might not...

Things I find strange about Anthropologie

So I've had Magnolia drops saved in my wish list ever so long. I check my wish list every day, even a couple of times a day to see if anything went on sale. Yesterday I was excited to find that the Magnolia earrings were discounted from $248 to $129.95. I click on the picture in anticipation of a happy purchase, and what do I find? The earrings are sold out. Only the night before the earring were full price. Why in the world would Anthropologie show an item as being on sale if they don't have it in stock? So I called customer service to see if maybe the earrings can be located in any of the stores. They could not. The rep told me that the last pare was sold back in October. Now why the heck did they go on sale yesterday if the last pair was sold in October? I'd really like to figure this one out.

Another thing that puzzles me is the departure of free shipping for Anthro members. What happened to that? Since sizing can be an issue, buying clothes over the Internet is always a gamble. That's why free shipping was the winning point of having an Anthro card. Bring it back!

And last but not least.....
Why don't Anthropologie stores have a bathroom? If an average customer stays in the store for 40 minutes (more like 1 hour and 40 minutes in my estimate), you'd think they might need to use the ladies room at some point during that time. Instead I always have to run across the street to Gap. One does wonder if Anthropologie was accommodating enough to have a toilet, what would it look like?

I was a bit bored with the second story in the April catalog. I'm not so crazy about all the geometric shapes, somehow they distract from the clothes, and the model has a vacant expression on her face.

Working at Home Sweet Home

I am so swamped with work lately that I have no time for anything; I barely see the light of day. Because of all my work, I never have time to go anywhere and it seems that the only place I wear my Anthropologie clothes is when I go back to Anthropologie to buy some more clothes. (That's either ironically pathetic or pathetically ironic.) In any case, I have no time for food much less for posting. However with two new Anthropologie catalogs out and me finally succumbing to some kind of phlegm coughing-up virus (excuse the details but it just pisses me off when I can't breath and talk at the same time), I decided I've earned some blogging time. So here I go.

I'm sure you're all aware by now that Anthropologie came out with their first ever (In my knowledge) Home Decor only catalog. In addition to selling cute accessories and quint furniture pieces, they now do custom upholstery. My theory is that it's all part of their world domination scheme. Did you know Anthropologie ships internationally now?

I am so impressed with Anthropologie for making this dining area look lived in and kids-friendly. I love that they added a little kid's table with spilled cereal and the train tracks going around the table legs. It resembles breakfast in my home. Whenever I look at the squeaky clean and perfectly orderly rooms in catalogs such as Pottery Barn I always feel the lack of chaos that is part of everyday life and think this furniture would not survive a day with my kids. Thankfully Anthropologie art directors had enough foresight to include a little bit of chaos which makes people like me feel normal.

How cute! No one does display design like Anthropologie.

Anthropologie decorated kids room? Nice. I'd also like to see Anthropologie expand into maternity wear, though something tells me that may never happen.
